Editor

Valley Forge, PA

Vanguard, one of the world's leading investment management companies, has an opening for a strong communications professional to edit and proofread copy created for Vanguard's website, Vanguard.com, and to adapt for online use materials created in other media.

You'll review editorial content for Vanguard ''voice'' and style, as well as accuracy, organization, format, and page flow. You'll make sure that all Web content follows departmental standards and includes proper regulatory hedge clauses and trademarks. Using your editorial discretion, you'll offer feedback to writers on content, grammar, style, and related topics. You'll keep your department aware of your projects' status, and regularly contribute ideas for workflow improvements.

You'll be expected to master the department's content-creation, content-management, and content-tracking software tools, and to remain current on key corporate and departmental initiatives, policies, procedures, and Web-publishing workflows. You should read financial news publications and competitive analyses to maintain awareness of important financial services and Web-publishing trends and events.

You'll build and maintain strong working relationships with Vanguard writers, editors, proofreaders, production coordinators, developers, and managers, and representatives from Vanguard's lines of business. As needed, you'll provide editing and proofreading support for print communications for other editorial teams.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in English, Journalism, or Communications, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum of three years of professional copyediting experience, including substantive/developmental editing in a business, e-business, financial services, advertising, newsroom, or technical setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain complex subject matter clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and beyond standard business hours when necessary.
  • Aptitude for using computer-based communication tools and for learning new technologies.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Web.
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry, particularly mutual funds, preferred.

Vanguard, a leading financial company, offers a competitive Total Rewards package of cash compensation, benefits, work-life programs, and conveniences.
