Writer-Editor

TELACU is a non-profit community development corporation founded in 1968. It is self-sustained by TELACU Industries, a for-profit family of companies which provides the economic means to fulfill TELACU's mission. Through its businesses, services and partnerships, TELACU creates dynamic opportunities to rebuild and enhance the communities it serves.

TELACU has an excellent opportunity for a full time Writer-Editor to write and edit internal and external materials, including printed and web materials, speeches, opinion pieces, essays, issue papers, background documents, conference materials, mini-grant proposals, and other publications.

In addition, the Writer-Editor will edit existing written materials and develop content for new materials through research, reading, data gathering, interviews, etc.

The Writer-Editor will work with and interview internal and external individuals to gather information and sources for use in developing written materials. The selected candidate will assist the communications team and others in preparing materials for conferences, presentations, and other means of raising awareness for assigned projects.

The Writer-Editor will assist in the preparation of internal and external presentations on assigned projects, including the creation of PowerPoint presentations and videos.

In addition, the selected candidate will supplement work in policy and communications areas as deemed necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Have a Bachelor Degree with a concentration in English, creative writing, public affairs, or communications.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience writing and/or editing in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong creative writing skills, and the ability to develop effective and compelling written content.
  • Must have the ability to successfully utilize a variety of writing styles, dependent on medium, purpose, audience, etc.
  • Must have strong editing and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be highly resourceful and have high levels of critical thinking and creative problem solving skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to be versatile and flexible in a dynamic environment.
  • Software proficiency required, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Access, Publisher, graphics packages, and Internet resources.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish (written and verbal).
