DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Creative Copywriter is responsible for promoting the Lottery image and products through concept development, creative writing, and editing. The Senior Creative Copywriter position requires a strong conceptual and creative thinker, who can lead and/or serve as a member of a creative team, and develop and implement new marketing campaigns and promotions. The work includes, but is not limited to, concept development; leading creative teams or projects as assigned; creating innovative concepts that position and describe products; writing copy for advertisements in a variety of media, including TV, radio, outdoor, print ads and collateral materials; editing and proofreading written communications for clarity, content, and accuracy; and providing creative copy for the Lottery’s website.
The Creative Copywriter serves as a conceptual creative writer and editor. The job requires a strong conceptual and creative thinker, who as a member of the creative team, will drive the development of the new marketing campaigns and promotions. Work includes, but is not limited to, concept development, writing copy for advertisements in a variety of media, including TV, radio, outdoor, print ads and collateral materials; editing written communications for clarity, content, and accuracy; and providing creative content for the Lottery's website.
Under limited supervision of the Marketing Communications Manager, this position requires the ability to work independently and with others within specific and general guidelines, while making independent decisions based on advertising issues and principles and practices of creative and effective advertising. Knowledge of Oregon Lottery procedures and copyrighting procedures is necessary. The work is guided by Lottery policies and procedures, the Lottery’s Business and Marketing plan, generally accepted copy-writing practices and standards, editing and proofreading principles, and advertising methods
Major duties include:
- Promote the Lottery image and products through concept development, creative writing, and editing.
- Provide conceptual thinking, creative techniques and persuasive skills to write accurate,
entertaining, innovative, and factually accurate copy for advertisements for television, radio,
print ads and articles for collateral materials, as well as materials for clients within the Lottery.
- Edit documents written by Marketing staff for content and grammatical accuracy.
- Review and edit Lottery internal and external publications before printing and distributing
to employees, retailers, and the public.
- Ensure that collateral and printed pieces represent the Oregon Lottery brand
- Research new ways to create consumer interest in products and stays informed of current
communications trends and techniques.
- Translate Business Plan directives into appealing selling messages for Lottery products.
- Work as a member of a creative team to develop concepts for a variety of advertising campaigns
and materials.
- Participate in concept planning sessions for advertising campaigns
- Contribute creative suggestions for advertising campaigns, game launches, promotions,
and other projects as assigned.
- Apply knowledge of product promotion to provide creative
ways to position and describe products.
- Prepare and produce text for promotional print
materials (posters, sales pieces for retailers, game and promotional brochures for players, direct
mail pieces, or catalogs) as needed
- Edit documents written by Marketing staff for content and grammatical accuracy.
- Review and edit Lottery internal and external publications before printing and distributing
to employees, retailers, and the public.
- Ensure that collateral and printed pieces represent
the Oregon Lottery brand
- Research new ways to create consumer interest in products and stays informed of
current communications trends and techniques.
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

Four years of experience working as a Copywriter in an organization that writes and produces television, radio, print, and collateral advertising materials.
OR
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university, or private vocational school with an emphasis in Advertising or a closely related field; and one three years experience working as a Copywriter in an organization that writes and produces television, radio, print, and collateral advertising materials.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is done in an office environment. Travel may be required for training, conference attendance, or field trips. This is a full-time, regular service position.
