The Editor will be responsible for editing updates to various Professional Standards Group publications, working with authors to make required changes, and submitting changes to various teams for publication. Editor will work with the Assistant editor on layout and proofreading aspects of the product cycle, and with the Managing Editor on new projects as they arise.

Responsibilities:
Edits new interpretations for Professional Standards Group’s six publications, including:
- Reads copy to detect errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax
- Ensures that copy conforms to AA publication style
- Edits copy to enhance readability and understandability
- Verifies facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources
Work with authors to:
- Review edits and ensure accuracy and readability of copy
- Ensure timeliness of updates according to established publishing schedule
- Answer questions posed by publishers about copy
Works with Assistant Editor to prepares written material for publication, performing any combination of following duties:
- Initiates and responds to electronic mail to authors and non-AA editorial staff regarding deadlines and AA editorial policy
- Delivers edited final copy to publisher
- Reads page proofs to detect errors and indicates corrections, using standards proofreading symbols

Often it is necessary to complete assignments on an overtime basis; it is required, therefore, that employees be available for overtime work, occasionally on short notice.

Minimum Position Requirements:
- 3-5 years of editing experience, preferably in Accounting or Financial topics
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or English preferred
- Proficient in the use of microcomputers, Windows environment, and Microsoft Word; familiarity with Lotus Notes and Internet desirable
- Experience with either QuarkXpress or PageMaker beneficial

Demonstrable Skills:
- Independence - assumes ownership of assigned tasks
- Strong grammar, copy editing, and proofreading skills
- Keen eye for detail, completeness, and accuracy in text and layout
- Identification and correction of inconsistencies and problems
- Ability to grasp and edit complex technical accounting information
- Ability to interface professionally with team members at various levels (from Staff to Partner) within the organization; strong communication skills
- Ability to manage publication process and timetable for multiple projects simultaneously
- Effective organization of tasks and priorities
- Ability to meet deadlines or make alternative arrangements
- Quality control, trouble-shooting, and problem-solving techniques
- Familiarity with AP Style Guide or Chicago Manual of Style and other publishing resources.
